Mission &Mandate

Chapel Sound's mandate is to push creative expression forward without artistic boundaries or prejudice.

Chapel Sound is devoted to offering platforms for local emerging artists to experiment in the field of multidisciplinary electronic art and music regardless of a person’s race, class, gender or orientation. Bringing people together through events, workshops, collaborations and cross-pollination with other local initiatives has played an important role for Chapel Sound in realizing this ambition.

As an umbrella organization, Chapel Sound has administered funding and microgrants to local grassroots initiatives and politically advocated for cultural producers.

Trust Is Our Foundation
At Chapel Sound Arts Foundation, trust is at the heart of everything we do. We are a tight-knit community of creatives and producers from diverse backgrounds committed to fostering connection and creativity. From gallery shows to feature documentaries and community-led weekly digital jams, we create spaces where art and collaboration thrive.
Collaborative Spirit
With deep roots in the arts world, our community spans diverse mediums and disciplines. We pour our hearts into our individual and collective creative journeys, embracing the role of cross-pollinators—sharing knowledge, learning from one another, and building multidisciplinary partnerships that inspire and elevate us all.
A Commitment to Integrity
While we cannot promise a perfect "safe space" (because, well, the world can be messy), we are dedicated to curating shows, presentations, and projects that are thoughtful, inclusive, and forward-thinking. As an arts organization, we acknowledge that creative work will be evaluated—by peers, funders, patrons, and audiences. Resilience is key, and we’re here to support each other when doubt creeps in, as it often does in creative pursuits.
A Legacy of Care
Chapel Sound has long been a sanctuary for Vancouver's vibrant artistic community. Our archives are filled with examples of collaboration, innovation, and care. We honor the artists, venues, workers, and volunteers who have shaped this space by treating everyone with the love and respect they deserve.
Navigating Challenges
We recognize that things won't always go as planned. Challenges are inevitable, but we face them with a commitment to accountability, creativity, and grace.
Zero Tolerance for Harm
We have a strict zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, abuse, harassment, or intimidation. Our community prioritizes de-escalation and the safety of all members. We are committed to addressing conflicts non-violently and with care, viewing law enforcement as a last resort.
Approaching Critique with Curiosity and Humility
Constructive critique is vital in art and community building. We encourage an inquisitive and thoughtful approach to both giving and receiving feedback, fostering a culture of mutual growth and understanding.
Action and Clarity
When addressing challenges or feedback, our aim is consensus on actionable steps. We prioritize clear and concise communication (think: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How). We ask that all concerns be specific, transparent, and solution-oriented. Come prepared with context and details—no vague or veiled language.Together, we create and sustain a dynamic, supportive community where art and creativity can flourish.
